Nami Japanese Academy (波日本語学校) is an online Japanese language education marketplace based in Singapore. We keep the personal data we handle to the minimum needed to run great lessons, and this policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have — in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
What we collect
- Contact details — your name, phone/WhatsApp number and, if you share it, your email address.
- Learning profile — your goals, prior Japanese experience and assessment results, so we can place you in the right course and class.
- Class records — attendance, submitted worksheets and progress in your course.
- Delivery details — the address you give us for free textbook and materials delivery.
- Payment records — invoices and payment references (e.g. PayLah! or PayNow). We never see or store your bank card details; payments are processed by your banking app.
How we use your data
- To respond to your enquiries and arrange your free level check.
- To assess your level professionally and place you in a suitable class.
- To schedule lessons and coordinate changes with you.
- To deliver your textbook and materials to your doorstep.
- To send invoices and administrative messages about your lessons.
- To improve our curriculum and teaching.
The tools we teach with
Lessons and coursework run on established platforms — video conferencing for live classes, Google Classroom for worksheets, and Quizlet for vocabulary practice. When you use these platforms, their own privacy policies also apply. We communicate with you primarily over WhatsApp.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run our classes and deliveries (for example, a courier receives your delivery address), or where the law requires us to.
Retention
We keep personal data only as long as it is needed for the purposes above, or as required by law, and then remove it.
Your rights
Under the PDPA you may ask to access or correct the personal data we hold about you, or withdraw consent to our use of it. Message us on WhatsApp and we will help.
Students under 18
For younger students — including our Japanese for Kids and O Level courses — we collect and use personal data with the consent of a parent or guardian, and communicate with the parent or guardian for administrative matters.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top.
